I am a 66 year-old male, fairly active, and had total posterior right hip replacement surgery (in NYC) June 2011. I must admit, I was very happy with the results. Needless to say, after coming to Sarasota this past October, my left hip was deteriorating to such a point, that I was trying to last through the winter months, before going back to NY to see my surgeon. In the meantime I thought of trying to get an injection down here for temporary relief. After my original visit/consultation with Dr. Toman in January, I decided to have the surgery done here. Dr Toman performed the surgery on Feb 5 using the anterior approach. The results have been amazing. I walked out of the hospital using a cane on February 7. On February 9th I was able to walk 2 miles with no pain, only the normal stiff/tight feeling around the incision. On February 10 I got rid of the cane and continue to do the routine prescribed excercises and walking. I have even been to the gym to bike and walk the treadmill, as well as some upper body excercising. After my original posterior surgery it took me 6 weeks rigorous outpatient physical therapy and home excercising, to get to the same point of physicality that I was at, one week after Dr. Toman’s anterior surgery !(With no outpatient p.t. at all!) As I stated before, It has truly been an amazing outcome! The total experience of the entire process, from the start, has been great! Only regret is that I didn’t have this done with the first hip! My sincere appreciation to Doctor Toman, all his staff and the Orthopedic Unit at Sarasota Memorial! Truly caring professionals!
